Question

Describe the process by which nitrogen is obtained from air on a large scale.

Answer

-- Filter the air/electrostatic precipitation/purity of air
-- Pass air through sodium hydroxide (NaOH) or potassium
-- Cool to 25°c to remove water vapour
-- Cool the remaining gases to form a liquid air
-- Perform fractional distillation of liquid air at -200°C
-- Nitrogen is collected at -196°c
