What Changes Occur in a Nerve Axon to Produce an Action Potential?

When an impulses passes along the axon, the membrane of the axon becomes depolarized to sodium ions thus they diffuse into the axon; the inside of the axon, becomes positively charged relative to the outside and action potential is generated.
