Oil can be applied on stagnant water to control the spread of malaria.
a) How does this practice work?
b) Give two reasons why this practice should be discouraged.

Answer

a) it breaks surface tension of water; hence larvae are unable to attach themselves on the water surface and they die ( due to suffocation); It clogs the respiratory surface leading o suffocation leading to death.
b) It kills even the other organisms that were not intended to be killed. It is also a pollutant as it contaminats drinking water.
