Difference Between Population and Community in an Ecosystem

Question

Define the following terms.
i. Population
ii. Community

Answer

In ecology, "population" and "community" are terms used to describe different levels of biological organization within an ecosystem.
Population: Population refers to the number of organisms of the same species occupying a given habitat, for instance the population of elephants in a forest and the population of bacteria in a pond.
Community: A community is a broader term that encompasses all the populations of different species of plants and animals in a given area and are interacting with each other. Example: The populations of trees, birds, insects, mammals, fungi, and bacteria.
