Gravitative Pressure and Earth Movement

Question

Explain how gravitative pressure causes earth movement

Answer

- When large quantities of magma escape from the upper mantle to the surface, large cavities/voids are left behind.
- The force of gravity acts on the crustal rocks above the cavities/voids.
- This exerts pressure on the rocks which eventually move inwards to fill up the voids below.
- This movement causes the earth's surface to form depressions/sunken sections.
