Characteristics of Extrusive Igneous Rocks

Question

State three characteristics of extrusive igneous rocks.

Answer

Extrusive igneous rocks, also known as volcanic rocks, are formed from lava that cools and solidifies on the Earth's surface. They originate from volcanic activity, where molten rock (magma) is expelled onto the surface through volcanic eruptions. Once the lava reaches the surface, it rapidly cools in contact with the atmosphere or water, leading to quick crystallization and the formation of fine-grained or glassy rocks.
Some of the characteristics of extrusive igneous rocks include:
1. They vary in sizes and shape.
2. They are found on the surface of the earth.
3. They have small crystals/fine textured
4. Formed from the cooling and solidification of lava.
