What is the role of platelets in blood clotting?

Answer

a) When platelets are exposed to air at the cut surface they rupture releasing thromboplastin / thrombokinase enzyme
b) Thrombokinase neutralizes the effect of heparin: (an anti-clotting factor)
c) Thrombokinase activates the conversion of prothrombin into thrombin: in presence of calcium ions
