Why Mammals Lack Cellulase Enzyme for Digestion

Mammals cannot digest cellulose because they do not secrete enzyme cellulase and yet herbivores depend mainly on grass for carbohydrates. Explain.

Answer

They have a symbiotic protozoa in their gut/rumen which produces enzyme cellulose to digest cellulose.
