  1. - Minerals occur in crevices/cracks or faults.
    - If they occur in small quantities in cracks or crevices then they are referred to as veins while those occurring in large quantities are referred to as lodes
  2. - Ugliness; All the natural beauty of the landscape has been lost.
    - Health hazard; Mineral exploitation can create a variety of hazards e.g open pits becomes breeding ground for mosquitoes. People and livestock can fall into the pits and injure themselves.
    - Lost productivity; The soil left behind after mining may not be able to support any meaningful economic activity.

    - To aid in making decisions regarding the creation of new administrative units.
